Today’s biscuits come in every conceivable shape, flavour and texture, however, until recently it seemed that the sole role of any well-intentioned sweet biscuit was to offer a well-rounded, moreish respite from daily eating routines that excites taste buds whilst delivering a short-lived sugary energy boost.
Feed the craving without misbehaving
The birth of Wholey Moly, back in 2018, was based on husband and wife Meenesh and Parul’s bold realisation that biscuits are a fantastic snacking vehicle that continued to sell itself short. They asked themselves why biscuits couldn’t be more than a quick fix, indulgent treat? What if biscuits were made with no-holds barred all-natural ingredients offering longer-term health benefits, mirroring the increasingly uncompromising health and lifestyle aspirations of today’s modern snacker? After all, great taste and good nutrition needn’t be mutually exclusive ambitions.
Parul and Meenesh were now gripped by their distinct ‘cookies with benefits’ vision but were not quite ready to leave the sheltered sanctuary of corporate life. Our two ‘foodpreneurs’ took to well-known farmer’s markets in London to see if discerning foodies might consider parting with hard-earned cash for our biscuity fayre and the answers were a resounding yes! Now felt like as good as time as any for Meenesh and Parul to unleash their inner Alan Sugars, withdraw their hard-earned savings and back their crumbly hunch.
Today Wholey Moly is a business with the biscuit snacking world at its feet. A nationwide Ocado listing is now in play along with a far-reaching trial with Sainsbury’s and new distribution channels (airlines) and innovation (sharing bags …) are already in the mix for 2022.
We were lucky enough to sample some of Wholey Moly’s cookies, which come in three tasty flavours:
- Pistachio and lemon
- Chocolate and orange
- Chocolate and Hazelnut
All three flavours are true to taste and are still just as sweet as the average cookie, despite having 50% less sugar. The texture feels a lot healthier too – a more crumbly, oaty quality. You definitely won’t feel guilty for over-indulging in these! We love the super cute and colourful packaging too.
