Make sure Santa knows where you’re sleeping and brighten up your home in time for Christmas Eve. Exchange the harsh main light in your living spaces for soft and delicate fairy lights.

Take the Christmas spirit outside and spread some holiday cheer with your neighbourhood. Using battery-powered or solar outdoor fairy lights, drape your garden in warm and mellow light and make the most out of your outdoor space, even in the freezing cold weather! Remember to use code wiseliving20 to get yourself a 20% discount off the battery-powered fairy lights!

2. A decorative fireplace

The fireplace is the centerpiece of any room. Whether it’s the living room, dining room or a bedroom, don’t forget to utilise this traditional feature in the lead up to Christmas. Lay your fairy lights across the fireplace’s mantelpiece, hang your stockings, or fill the space with other ornamental Christmas trinkets.

3. Blankets and throws

Optimise the cosiness of your house with added blankets and throws. Not only is doubling up on blankets helpful for cutting down your heating bill, but the added textures will enhance your home decor. Add traditional prints and fabrics such as tartan and faux fur, or opt for something more modern with neutrals and monochrome. No matter your style, adding extra throws and blankets to your living space will make it feel warm and cosy.

4. A cohesive Christmas decoration theme

Picking your Christmas decoration theme is no easy feat. Will you choose a classic red and green colour combination? Are you keeping things classy with white and silver? Or are you going to mix things up with tints of purple and gold?

Deciding your festive theme is one of the biggest decisions you’ll make during the winter. If you want to create a homely environment, we advise having a cohesive decorating theme throughout the house. Having too many decorative styles can make your home feel overwhelming and uninviting. Whereas, having one dedicated theme ties your space together, creating a relaxing and intimate space.

5. Stockings for all the family

Stockings are a Christmas staple. Whether you have children or your house is occupied by grown-ups, no one is ever too old for a stocking filled with meaningful gifts. Hang your stockings on the fireplace or from the stairs, ready for Santa to fill when the big day arrives.

6. A working fireplace

Nothing says Christmas like crackling logs under vibrant orange flames and thick smog climbing up the Chimney. If you’re lucky enough to have a working fire, now is the season to make the most of it. Stock up on firewood and firelighters and enjoy nights spent snuggled up on the sofa listening to the fire crackle and whisper in the background of your favourite Christmas film.

7. Fresh potpourri

Bring the rich and luxurious scents of Christmas inside the home with freshly made potpourri. Potpourri is created using dried spices and plant materials. Homeowners place potpourri in decorative bowls as an interior feature and because it releases a gentle and natural scent. At Christmas time, cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, vanilla and clove are the most popular fragrances for potpourri. Purchase or create your potpourri and place it in every room to carry the scents of Christmas throughout your home.

8. Outside decorations

Have you ever driven past a house dressed head to toe in fairy lights and other mesmerising Chrstimas decorations and desperately wished to see what it looks like inside? Outdoor decorations make your home more inviting and emphasise Christmas cheer. Bring a smile to passers-by’s faces and immerse yourself as much as possible in the festive season by adding electric or battery-powered outside decorations. Go all-out with a Deck The Halls inspired ensemble, or keep things simple and classy with fairy lights draped across the lawn. Either way, don’t forget to spread the Christmas cheer outside your property as well as in!

9. Scented candles

Alongside fresh potpourri, you can carry the rich smells of Christmas through your home using scented candles. Pick your favourite Christmas scent and create a calm and relaxing ambience with a lite candle on the coffee table.

I don’t know about you, but the first sign of frost sends me racing back home to snuggle up under my duvet. Using the ten tips in this blog post, I’m taking the cold weather in my stride and transitioning my home into a cosy winter wonderland.

Added pillows and throws, rich and luxurious scents, and beautiful, classy Christmas decorations will help make my home feel as cosy as possible this Christmas.
